where to buy hospital beds

If you need a hospital bed for your home you’re likely wondering just where you’re going to get one. Right? You want to make sure that you have something high quality that your family member is going to be able to use safely and that means you want to have something official.

You don’t want to buy just any bed and let them use it. You want to make sure that you have an actual hospital bed, and that’s going to mean buying from the right places.

Look at Hospitals Selling Used Medical Equipment

One of the first places that you can buy a hospital bed from is an actual hospital. Now, when it comes to buying these beds you’re generally not going to be able to just walk into the hospital and ask to buy a bed.

You’ll usually have to wait for a special sale where the hospital is getting rid of some of their old equipment. This will give you access to the actual hospital beds that your local hospital is using.

This can be more convenient for some, but the timing needs to be just right for when you need it.

Give Nursing Homes a Try

Another option is from a nursing or retirement home. Some of these locations also offer beds for sale after they get new ones.

Make sure that you look these beds (and the ones from hospitals) over before you buy them. Generally they’ll be good about only selling ones that are in good shape but you definitely don’t want to get something that isn’t good quality.

Nursing homes may trade out their beds less frequently even than hospitals and this means you could be getting something that’s even more out of date. But they’ll generally work for a patient who just needs the extra support.

Contact Medical Suppliers

Yet another place to buy these beds is direct from a medical supplier. While some of these places only sell beds directly to medical locations (like those nursing and retirement homes or hospitals) others will actually sell to anyone.

Some are also able to sell to anyone as long as you get permission from your insurance company. Make sure you’re at least checking out these locations as you might be able to get better deals or you may be able to get something better than you might have thought if you can get you insurance to chip in for part (or all) of the cost as well.

Buy Directly From the Manufacturer

Going directly to the manufacturer is another option when it comes to buying these beds.

Sometimes you’ll be able to reach out to them directly and buy something that ships right to you. Not all manufacturers sell their own products directly at all.

Some only work with insurance companies or with medical services companies so you may have to do a little digging to find out which ones are willing to sell directly to you.

Either way, this might be an option or they might be able to point you in the direction of someone who can sell directly to you.

Buy Hospital Beds Online

Finally, you can go to a third party source in order to purchase these types of beds.

This could be a website like Amazon where different third party sellers or even manufacturers could be selling the beds. This will give you a little bit more freedom on just what you want to purchase and will also make sure that you get the best prices.

Now, it’s important to keep in mind who you are buying from. If you’re buying from a company you’re generally going to be better off than buying directly from an individual, for example.

But when you buy through a third party service you don’t always know who you’re dealing with, which makes it even more important for you to read everything you can about the product.

Wrapping Up & Confession

Confession time…since we make a commission from products bought online through our affiliate links, you’d expect us to highlight “buying online” as the go to method for buying a hospital bed . (We would make more money that way)

But, while we do recommend online products, it doesn’t mean there’s not a better option for you.

No matter where you buy your bed from, make sure that you look it over or find out about returns and warranty information first. This is going to protect you if there’s anything wrong with the bed once you do receive it. If there are customer reviews give them a read too.

After all, you want to make sure that your family member or patient is going to be comfortable and that they are going to have the best possible care, right?

Giving them a quality bed is going to be one of the first steps in affording them the level of care that they deserve and that you’re looking for.

Remember to look at the mattress (if the bed comes with one) or look at what type of mattress you will need to buy if it doesn’t. You want to be sure that you can find the right type of mattress easily enough.

You also want to look at all of the mechanics. Whether the bed is manual or electric, you want to know if all of the components work and if all of the components are included. This is going to ensure that you can use the bed the way that you’re expecting to.

If your patient has any special requirements (like full length guards or a bariatric bed) be sure that you are looking at these features as well.

The most important thing is just to know what you’re getting, and to double check everything before your warranty or return period wear out.
